Critical social work

We offer the course "Critical Social Work" to Master level students of social work. It introduces various perspectives in social work, specifically structural, radical, critical and anti-oppressive and its implications for social work practice. It discusses the history of critical social work and its leaders. We look at values and ethics in critical social work. We closely discover topics of oppression, participation, empowerment, advocacy and social justice. We introduce to students participatory and radical methods used in critical social work, e.g. participatory action research, theatre of the oppressed, peer work or photovoice. We discuss community organizing as one of the radical formats of community social work and cover topics of leadership, self-organizing and social movements.
